Bonjour Jones Brothers!
Today we’re talking coffee surprisingly and specifically, why you should keep up your consumption. Why? Well amongst many other reasons, it appears that coffee could help prevent depression. A recent Harvard study analysed the caffeine consumption of 200,000 men and women with results showing that 2-4 cups per day had a protective effect.
In fact, the study found that the risk of suicide amongst adults who drank several cups of caffeinated coffee on a daily basis was about half that compared to those who drank decaffeinated coffee, very little coffee or no coffee at all. Interesting!
You see, caffeine works by stimulating the central nervous system but it may also act as a mild antidepressant by increasing production of certain ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline.
This could explain why this study, and indeed others, has found a lower risk of depression among coffee drinkers. Of course, we’re not suggesting you self-medicate with coffee but we are suggesting that you take heed and remain aware that the benefits of being a coffee drinker just show no end!
We also know that coffee helps your heart. We know it can even help prevent Type 2 diabetes. We know it can lower the risk of certain cancers. We know it can improve cognitive function. We know it helps with endurance levels when it comes to physical activity (talking sport there btw!). We know it helps keep us alert, especially today when a new work week begins post a fun weekend. And now we know that it helps suppression of depression?
If that’s not a good reason to brew a cup of Jones Brothers Coffee and enjoy the nation’s finest coffee, we don’t know what is!
Have a cool week and please share our posts with the coffee-loving community around you via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, whatever. Just share if you care … about coffee, about the planet and most of all, about Jones Brothers Coffee.
Till the next …
