Strong smell of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and many other spices in kruidennoten is what makes them special and will certainly make you drool while you’re baking them. Sinterklaas would be incomplete without this lovely spiced little cookie.
All the team at Jones Brothers Coffee Company are super excited about Sinterklaas. Starting with making the kruidnoten. So here you go a simple recipe for you to make your holiday a bit more special.

What do you need?
• 200g of self-raising flour
• 100g of brown sugar
• 1 egg
• 1tsp of each ground aniseed, white pepper, and salt
• 1tsp of cinnamon powder
• ½ tsp of each ground ginger, nutmeg, and cloves
• 2tbsp of butter
• 2tbsp of water

How do you make it?
It’s a simple process but be careful to pay extra attention to little details. Put everything together and knead a stiff dough. Leave the kneaded dough to rest for a couple of hours in the fridge. The secret here is to let the dough rest to let the flavors of all the spices blend together.
Heat up the oven to 150°C. Roll the dough into small balls and place them on a silicon mat on a baking tray. Press each ball slightly down. Bake them for 15 minutes until they are nicely brown. Let them cool and….. voila!
