One Cup Closer to Transparency
This isn’t just a beautiful Kenyan coffee
It’s the beginning of something bigger
With our newest single origin from Ziwa Farms in Nyeri, we’re taking a meaningful step toward something we’ve believed in from the start — a more honest, inclusive, and people-first approach to sourcing coffee.
From the farm to the final roast, we want to share not just what’s in your cup, but how it got there — and who made it possible.
From Crop to Cup
In 2019, Esther, a Kenyan banker, bought land in Nyeri to create a life in coffee for her daughter Shantelle, who was born with Down syndrome. She saw in coffee farming a rhythm and purpose that could offer Shantelle dignity, income, and independence.
From there, Ziwa Farms was born — intercropped with macadamia trees, beehives, a wet mill and a growing team of women where every step is done with quality and care in mind.
The result is more than just a delicious cup — it’s a story of inclusion, resilience, and real impact.
We’ve always believed in doing coffee the right way. But with this release, we’re being more open than ever about how that happens.
We sourced this coffee through Shantelle’s company, Shirlakawa, in direct collaboration with This Side Up — a partner known for radical transparency in a system that often hides its costs and actors.
- The coffee was grown and processed at Ziwa Farms where all harvesting, sorting, and processing was overseen by Esther and her family.
- It was graded and exported locally by Shirlakawa and Sakami Coffee, keeping value in Kenya.
- All links in the supply chain, including us, shared information, pricing, and quality feedback transparently.
We are committed to farmer-inclusive trade, clear sourcing, honest trade and better coffee!
We’re proud of the relationships we’ve built, and we’re even prouder to begin showing them to you.
We’re working toward every roast being this transparent. One lot at a time. One origin at a time. One story at a time.
Because if we want better coffee, we need a better system.
And better always begins with being honest.

We’ll continue highlighting the people behind the beans.
And we’ll always let you know where we stand.
