Kenya AA - SINGLE ORIGIN

Description

Grown at over 1,900 metres in the rich volcanic soils of Nyeri, Kenya, this washed-process coffee is a vibrant and refined expression of its origin. With this release, we take one step closer toward our commitment to being more transparent and farmer-inclusive — sharing not just the flavour in your cup, but the story behind it. The high elevation and meticulous processing result in a coffee that’s both complex and clean, with depth, clarity, and elegance in every sip. This is Kenyan coffee at its most balanced and expressive — bold enough for espresso, yet delicate enough to shine in filter brews.

Bright fruit, soft structure.

Expect lively flavours of soft peach, orange zest, and white grape, beautifully balanced by a caramelised brown sugar sweetness and a touch of cherry on the finish. With its vibrant acidity and clean, elegant profile, this coffee shines in both filter and light espresso brews — a juicy, refined cup that leaves a lasting impression.

From Crop to Cup

This coffee starts with a mother’s vision and a daughter’s future.

In 2019, Esther — a Kenyan banker with deep roots in coffee finance — bought a piece of land in Nyeri. Her goal was simple but powerful: to build a life in coffee for her daughter Shantelle, who was born with Down syndrome. The idea? That coffee, with its seasonal rhythm and hands-on care, could offer Shantelle a future filled with purpose, income, and dignity.

Esther and her family planted their first trees at Ziwa Farms in 2020, intercropping them with macadamia and indigenous trees. They built a wet mill, installed 25 beehives, and began working with local schools to involve young people in the process — making farming not just accessible, but aspirational.

Everything on the farm is done with intention. Women and youth are hired from the community to pick only the ripest cherries, which are then carefully sorted, pulped, and slowly sun-dried to protect quality. The parchment is stored onsite to preserve flavour and freshness until milling and export. Esther oversees each step personally — setting a new standard for traceability, care, and community-driven production.

As we grow, so does our responsibility. This coffee represents our commitment to greater transparency in sourcing, and a promise to highlight the people, values, and practices behind every cup we roast.

This Bean's Journey

Process: Washed

Harvest: 2024

Varietal: Ruiru 11

How we like to Brew It

We love this one as a filter — V60 or batch brew really brings out those bright, juicy notes of peach and white grape, with a clean, sweet finish that lingers beautifully. That said, it’s a versatile gem. Dial it in as a light espresso or try it in an AeroPress for something punchier — the clarity and balance hold up across the board.

However you brew, you’ll taste the care behind every cup.
