We at Jones Brothers Coffee could no longer refrain and would like to pay homage to a collection of musical maestros. Their love for coffee rivals our own and that is no minor feat. Our staff worked at triple time to compile a sonata of tunes with coffee as the lead instrument. They harmonize perfectly with your fresh daily brew.
Ol’ Blue Eyes knew how to swing himself into uptempo! The song, with lyrics by Bob Hilliard and composition by Richard Miles, is a parody on Brazil’s politically driven overproduction of coffee which lead to the governmental destruction of massive amounts of beans (that alone makes us want to cry!). By mid-1932, half of this oversupply had been destroyed or repurposed, with thousands of bags being cast into the sea. We can only DREAM of swimming in those coffee flavoured waters, but if you want to wake up and get going…this song is sure to add to that caffeinated pep in your step!
“Coffee beans grow by the billions
So they’ve got to find those extra cups to fill
…Why they could percolate the ocean in Brazil”
So this song is about tea! No no no…Just kidding! It is one man’s ode to coffee.
“Make it warm and make it sweet
Just the way my life has been
Give me coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee
And let me tell you, you have found yourself a friend”
One of Bob Marley’s early works is about coffee! Okay, well the song isn’t really ABOUT coffee, but more about the time it gives us. It is the focal point of the moment regardless of circumstances. We like that.
Coffee connects us, even for the briefest of moments.
“Make my coffee sweet and warm
Just the way you used to lie in my arms”
Come again Bob? One MORE cup of coffee? Of course!
Another Bob singing about someone he wants to spend time drinking a coffee with. Whoever you are…wherever you are…just go have a coffee with a person named “Bob.” The Bob need their coffee. In fact, jokes aside, this song is a heartbreaker, but not as heartbreaking as one LESS cup of coffee could be!
“One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ‘fore I go”
There are those of us who drink one more cup and then there is Ella Mae Morse. She started with one, had one more and then 38 more! Ella showed devotion and we applaud her appreciation! We’re wondering if she might have helped to drink all of that extra Brazilian coffee ‘Ol Blue Eyes was signing about.
