Coffee recipes 24-09-2018

Autumn is here! Yes, one look at the trees in Amsterdam and we’re certain the summer is over. But it’s not really all bad news! When it gets cold outside, it’s time to start the cosy season: put on a warm sweater and sip on and relish every cup of coffee. About some time ago we gave you some useful DIY tips for using your coffee grounds. Here we are again with a few more Coffee DIYs!

The great news is, that energizing coffee smell can stay with you throughout the day- and not only when you’re having another cup of your favourite drink! Read on how you can use your coffee to make soap and decorative candles and have this great coffee aroma surrounding you at any time of the day!

Keep your hands clean with Coffee soap:

Ingredients

  • 250g of Unscented soap base (we had transparent soap base also called Gietzeep in the Netherlands)
  • 1/3 cup of coffee grounds (For the perfect strong smell we used Big Shot grounds)
  • Non-stick pan
  • Butter knife
  • Silicon moulds

How to make it:

Put your pan on the stove over a medium heat. Place the soap base in the pan and let it slowly melt. Don’t forget to occasionally stir. If the soap base has completely melted put the coffee grounds in and let them brew for 10 minutes. You will notice that the mixture has become darker.

Here’s your personal touch, pour the mixture into silicone moulds in whatever shape you want. Let it sit for about an hour or until it’s completely dried. Be very careful don’t scratch the soap you don’t want to ruin your personal project do you? The soap bar is perfectly safe to use as any normal soap.

Coffee tealight décor:

While you’re all curled up on the couch, coffee scented candles will make your evening even cosier.

What you need:

  • Coffee beans
  • 3-4 Unscented tea light candles in a metal holder (thee lichtjes/waxine lichtjes from Blokker)
  • A bowl/cup whatever you want but preferably something heat resistant. (We used a glass bowl)

How to make it:

Start by pouring the beans in the bowl. Settle in 3 to 4 candles and light them up. Once the candles start to burn the metal holder will heat up, so do the coffee beans releasing the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

If you have been doing any DIY projects we’d love to hear about them!

Enjoy!
