A great bag of Jones Brothers Coffee beans is the end result of a ton of hard work – all the way from crop to cup. From farm selection, to the method used to process the cherries, to bean storage and shipment, to blending, roasting, blending and bagging, we’ve paid serious attention to every single step of the way.
Now it’s up to you to brew it. So where should you start?
Sure, the quality of beans is critical, but despite what most people think, you should pay attention to equipment first. And the very first thing you should look for is a grinder.
The uniform particle size achieved using a burr grinder is simply the best for preparing great coffee at home. Some methods of brewing may be more tolerant of the range of particle sizes produced by a blade grinder; this may be the case for drip (percolated) coffee, for example. But, burr coffee grinders are more suited for keeping the flavor and aroma of the coffee beans intact than blade grinders. This is mainly because burr mills produce less heat from friction — that’s especially important for coffee aficionados looking to get the most flavor from their freshly ground beans.
So now we are on the right track …
This article reviews a series of home grinders based on popularity and recommendations from industry professionals. In the article, they balance quality of grind and ease of use – when testing seven candidates.
If you are just starting to get serious about your coffee (and why wouldn’t you?) thinking about the right grinder is a great place to start.
